Tropical Indo-Pacific: from the Red Sea and East Africa to the Hawaiian Islands, Tuamotu Islands and Marquesas Islands.

Habitat:

Coral reefs, sandy areas near corals, between 1 and 50 metres deep.

Size:

Up to 40 cm.

Diet:

Crustaceans, molluscs, echinoderms, small benthic invertebrates.

 

Juveniles and adult yellow-tailed cories look completely different.

Juvenile fish are bright orange with five white spots edged with black on the upper part of their bodies.

Females have a light orange head and a green then blue body with a yellow caudal fin.

Males have a blue head streaked with green bands and a body ranging from green to blue with blue spots. Their caudal fin is the same yellow colour.
