Sand yachting

Looking for hair-raising sensations? Sand yachting provides thrills and spills at every turn!

Skimming along, seated in your cockpit, you race along immense stretches of sand at high speed. Don’t worry, you don’t need to have Mike Horn’s physical condition or temperament to give it a go! From Boulogne-sur-Mer going via Wimereux, Le Portel, Equihen-Plage or Hardelot, the various resorts’ nautical clubs propose beginners’ lessons, even for young kids. The flagship sport on the Opal Coast (it was invented here!), sand yachting offers a unique sporting experience. Compulsory!

Windsurfing, kitesurfing

Tarifa had better watch out! The Boulogne beaches offer some incredible spots for all wind- and kitesurfers. If seeing them take off, defying the wind, makes you want to give it a try, you should know that, once again here, the nautical centres propose kit for hire and various options for learning the basics. But in this case, you’ll have to be pretty fit and take your courage in both hands, but it’ll be well worth it: a real blast of freedom!

Sea-wading

And what if you gave sea-wading a go? This activity was born here on the Opal Coast and it even has a name: sea-wading. As its name suggests, you wade along through the sea, but not any old way! In a group, preferably in single file, you wade along chest-deep through the sea. A new way of hiking… Besides its fun aspect, sea-wading is perfect for getting fit, however athletic or old you may be. The buoyancy given by the water allows you to make intense efforts without suffering the damaging effects!

Stand-up paddling

No doubt you’ve heard all about it, stand-up paddle has conquered the French coast, and Boulogne is no exception! Standing on a long board, you glide along the water using a paddle. Very complete from the physical point of view, stand-up paddling is also great fun, especially when you’re doing it with friends. Our favourite: the giant paddleboard that can carry up to eight people at a time. Fun and laughter guaranteed!

Catamaran, optimist, sailing dinghy, kayak

There are many types of boats for getting out to sea and putting yourself in a sailor’s shoes. Sailing dinghies, optimists, catamarans… They’ll all offer you an introduction to the joys of sailing in total safety, whatever your level. Whether you take a course to learn the basics or rent a boat if you already know a bit about sailing, the sensations are sure to be there for you. You can also go kayaking, which is really popular on the coast here. A good way of taking up a sporting challenge and discovering the beauty of the coast.
