A bike ride on the Opal Coast: an activity for everyone
Alone, with your partner, your family or friends, cycling allows you to enjoy a bit of soft sport and discover different landscapes at your own pace. This means of transport also offers you the opportunity to cover several kilometres peddling along to visit several points of interest. To enable all travellers to enjoy this form of green tourism, the Cycleco association, a Nausicaá partner, proposes several services. From conventional bicycle hire, to children's bikes, not to mention trailers and baby seats if you're with your family, you'll find all the equipment you need. You want to effortlessly speed away? Do not hesitate to opt for an e-bike: it'll allow you to go further, faster and without finishing your bike ride on the Opal Coast feeling exhausted. And you can even learn to repair your bike yourself so you can set out along the cycle paths without a care in the world thanks to the eco-workshop!
Cyclotourism tours to suit everyone
Cycle touring on the Opal Coast is truly a pleasure, all the more so as several routes have been specially layed out for this purpose.
To discover the different landscapes on your two-wheeler without meeting any cars, you have the choice between a number of routes such as :
- The Vélomaritime, or Eurovéloroute No 4: this cycle route is in fact 4,000 kilometres long and crosses seven countries from Ukraine to France, passing via the Somme Bay to Mont-Saint-Michel and then on into Brittany. The section that passes through the region is 30 kilometres long and allows you to discover the seaside towns of Sangatte and Wimereux, as well as the Deux-Caps cliffs :
- The Terre des Deux Caps cycle tour: a 38-kilometre loop departing from Wissant allows you to pass by Cap Blanc-Nez and Cap Gris-Nez and pedal along between land and sea for about four hours.
- The Marbrières cycle tour: explore inland leaving from Wimereux with this 42-kilometre ride offering you the opportunity to pass by several historical and geological sites. This ride will take you about four and half hours.
- The tour of the town and its surroundings: for city-lovers, the Cycleco association proposes several bike tours to explore Boulogne-sur-Mer and the surrounding areas starting from the town centre.
Mountain biking for sports lovers
For the real sports enthusiasts, they can swap their touring bicycle for a mountain bike. There are several sign-posted trails in Nord–Pas-de-Calais region, running close to the beaches and dedicated to cross-country touring. For beginners there is, for example, the Prévosserie trail or the Berguette trail, which are 14- and 18-kilometre loops departing from Marquise. Also departing from Marquise, the more enduring can choose to set out on the Mont Pinel trail with its 42 kilometres and a 547-metre positive altitude difference to discover the area.
As for the Mémoire trail, which is considered to be difficult with its 54 kilometres and an accumulated positive altitude difference of 719 metres, it takes you close to the coast while allowing you to discover several historical sites, A wonderful opportunity to combine sport and tourism!
Nausicaá is a member of Accueil vélo: services for cyclists on tourist sites
Nausicaá is situated on the Vélomaritime route, also called EuroVelo 4, which goes from the Channel to the North Sea linking Roscoff to Dunkirk.
Cyclists are informed, in the places that belong to the network, that they have at their disposal a bike park, a drinking water point, documentation on the cycle routes, repair kits and battery charging points.
