European projects

Mr.Goodfish 3.0

Extend the Mr.Goodfish approach to the whole of the European Union.

Le projet

Launched in 2010 in France, Italy and Spain at the instigation of Nausicaá - Centre National de la Mer, the Mr.Goodfish programme has played a key role in promoting responsible consumption of seafood.

Building on this success, the Mr.Goodfish3.0 project was launched on 1 May 2024 with Horizon Europe funding for a period of three years, with the aim of extending the Mr.Goodfish approach to the whole of the European Union. This strategic initiative is directly aligned with the EU's mission "Restore our oceans and waters", aspiring to protect marine ecosystems through research, innovation and citizen engagement by 2030.

Thanks to Mr.Goodfish 3.0, new tools and approaches will be offered to help consumers make the right choices, while encouraging good practice within the various sectors of the aquatic products industry.

Key actions

  • Enhancement of the Mr.Goodfish application: development of enriched content on seasonal seafood products, their health benefits and the reduction of food waste, adapted to the various European cultural and socio-economic contexts.
  • Engaging and strengthening partnerships with industry professionals: working with a diverse network of stakeholders across Europe's marine and freshwater basins to promote sustainable consumption practices.
  • Major Europe-wide awareness campaign: implementation of a large-scale campaign, using traditional and social media, to reach both adults and young people.

With Mr.Goodfish 3.0, Nausicaá and its partners are continuing their commitment to the responsible consumption of seafood for the benefit of the oceans and future generations.

A new website and a new mobile app

Website and app

As part of the Mr.Goodfish 3.0 project, the website and mobile app have been completely redesigned to offer a more intuitive and seamless user experience for both consumers and professionals.

This redesign has also made these tools available in all 24 official languages of the European Union, as well as in Norwegian, so that they can be used by all European citizens.

The new platforms have been designed based on feedback gathered during co-creation workshops organised with the project’s stakeholders.

On the website

These discussions have enabled the content to be reorganised around clearer user journeys. This modernisation represents an important step towards raising the programme’s profile and making it easier to access reliable information on the sustainable consumption of seafood.

The actions taken

Board game: The Pillars of the Sea

As part of the Mr.Goodfish3.0 project, a serious game-style board game has been developed by Citynova, in collaboration with our partner ECSITE (European Network of Science Centres & Museums). Its aim is to raise awareness amongst younger generations of the vital role played by the oceans and the fragility of marine ecosystems.

In The pillars of the Sea, players take on the roles of characters with varied backgrounds – scientists, fishermen, policy-makers, campaigners or members of a coastal community – whose lives are closely linked to the ocean. Each character must tackle specific challenges, but also face a shared challenge: finding solutions to protect marine biodiversity.

Suitable for ages 12 and over, the game is for 3 to 6 players.

Co-creation workshop

The Mr.Goodfish 3.0 project has encouraged a co-creation approach amongst the various partner organisations within the Mr.Goodfish network. Its aim is to gather the needs, expectations and perspectives of stakeholders in the seafood sector in order to foster a common approach to the sustainable consumption of seafood at European level.

Thanks to this inclusive approach and collective reflection – from the sea to the plate – the challenges and barriers specific to each category of stakeholder were identified, enabling tailored solutions to be developed.

Several workshops were organised at Nausicaá. The first, held in February 2025, was aimed at professionals and stakeholders in the sector; the second, in October 2025, was aimed at teachers; and the third was aimed at consumers.

The insights gained from these workshops will enable the development of tools and initiatives tailored to different European audiences to encourage more sustainable consumption of seafood.

Partners’ meeting

As part of the Mr.Goodfish3.0 project, the partners meet annually for a general assembly with the aim of developing ideas for the project’s development and its outcomes.

  • On 24 and 25 June 2024, the project partners met in Larnaca, Cyprus, at the Cyprus Marine and Maritime Institute (CMMI),
  • On 10 and 11 July 2025 at Nausicaá,
  • From 18 to 20 March 2026 at the Nordnorsk Vittensenter in Tromsø, Sweden.
