Press release 2023

20 million visitors to Nausicaá!

On Wednesday, 26th of July 2023, Nausicaá, the Centre National de la Mer (National Sea Centre) in Boulogne-sur-Mer welcomed its 20 millionth visitor.

Thirty-two years after its opening, Nausicaá is continuing to attract the crowds: almost 850,000 visitors every year. As the second-largest tourist attraction north of Paris, the Centre National de la Mer is a genuine tourist magnet and an economic development tool.

The record of 20 million visitors once again confirms the Centre’s appeal, not least thanks to its endlessly renewed exhibitions and new additions every year.

In June 2022, Nausicaá embarked on a new era with the “GRAND LARGE”, an immersive augmented reality experience that takes you on a journey to rub shoulders with the Giants of the High Seas. And in July 2023, the Centre National de la Mer launched “In the footsteps of a handler”, a unique experience to learn about the day-to-day routine of the handlers at Nausicaá.

Whether they come from Hauts-de-France, north of the Loire, Belgium, England, the Netherlands or Germany, their presence also demonstrates the growing interest that the general public is taking in the marine environment. The Centre is rated 4 out of 5 on TripAdvisor and has been awarded the “Qualité Tourisme” label since 2013.
