The new and exceptional activity of Nausicaa !

In the footsteps of a keeper

Come for half a day and share our keepers’ daily life!

As closely as possible to Nausicaa’s emblematic animals

The activity “in the footsteps of a keeper” is designed like an immersion inside the backstages of Europe’s biggest aquarium; it will allow you to see the animals as closely as possible and to discover the job of a keeper. This job is dedicated to animals’ well-being: sea lions, reptiles, journey-on-the-high-seas animals, etc.

You will meet keepers in their working day with a science mediator. For each species, the suggested experience will be different. Thus, the apprentice keepers (maximum 4 people) will assist as closely as possible with the feeding of the journey high-seas animals. They will participate in a coral’s taking cuttings workshop. Also, they will feed the reptiles, prepare the animals’ meals, attend the sea lions’ medical training, discover the stocks where you can find new-born animals, etc.

Two experiences to live

This unique experience will allow you to experience magical moments and share the job’s passion while being aware of the need to protect the oceans and species.

After this half day, you will leave with numerous funny and surprising anecdotes on the animals here in Nausicaa…with an apprentice keeper diploma.

* Activities may be modified at any time according to the needs of the aquariology service, as live animals sometimes require last-minute adjustments.

From 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Wednesday schedule*

Feeding of the large fishtank: Take part in their meals' preparation and have a closer look at their feeding.

Feeding of the zebra sharks: Food preparation and feeding of the sharks.

*Jellyfish activity: Attend the transfer of nauplii (swimming larvae characteristic of crustaceans that serves as food for jellyfish) and discover the life cycle of jellyfish and participation in feeding. You will also attend the jellyfish's transfer and the changing of the water. OR Coral activity: You will unveil coral and take cuttings at Nausicaa.

From 08:30 to 11:30.

Saturday Programme*

Sea lion activity: You will go on a tour of the premises, see the sea lions' food being prepared, watch the food being distributed and observe the training exercises.

Feed the fish on the high seas: You will prepare meals for the fish in the large tank and the shoal.

*Reptiles and amphibians: You will assist with feeding in the stockroom, handle non-dangerous animals, learn about the diversity of reptiles and maintain the terrariums. OR you can feed the animals in the touch tank, preparing their food and feeding them.

A pancake and a drink

The participants under 16 years old have to be accompanied by an adult who has a ticket for the activity.

Meet at the Nausicaa entrance at the latest 15 minutes before the beginning of the activity.

Give the activity in the footsteps of a keeper.

Give the exclusive opportunity to experience life as a zookeeper at Nausicaa. Our apprentices will get close to our animals and participate in unique activities, from feeding to care.

This voucher is valid for 1 year, and it is exchanged by the beneficiary for a ticket on the date of their choice by contacting the booking service at resa@nausicaa.fr.

Practice

Security and comfort

We recommend you wear a comfortable outfit. Nausicaa will lend you the suitable equipment in relation to each activity suggested. Each participant has to respect punctiliously the security instructions and the stand orders of Nausicaa.

Cancellation

Nausicaa reserves the right to cancel this activity in case of insufficiency or in case of a major force. In case there is a cancellation on the initiative of Nausicaa, we will suggest you postpone your activity to a later date, depending on availability.

Information

If postponement is not possible, you will receive a full refund of all payments made; no other compensation can be claimed (transportation costs, etc.). The activity requires moving in difficult-to-access areas; for any specific request, please contact education@nausicaa.fr.

For any cancelled activity at the customer’s request, the entire amount will remain with Nausicaa. In case of the client’s no-show, no refund will be issued.

In the context of this activity, Nausicaa set preventive measures up to welcome you in the best conditions and to allow us to experience a special moment in complete safety.
