Join the Nausicaá endowment fund !

Nausicaá, the largest aquarium in Europe, is so much more than just an aquarium. To further its mission to protect the Ocean, Nausicaá has created an endowment fund that essentially supports projects centred on the theme "The Ocean, the Lungs of Mankind".

Nausicaá is the only aquarium in the world to be recognised as a "Centre of Excellence" by the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO (IOC) for its role in raising public awareness of the need to manage the oceans properly. In addition to offering the public one of the world's finest aquariums, Nausicaá's mission is to contribute to safeguarding mankind by keeping the ocean in good health. The endowment fund is Nausicaá's armed wing to take up this immense challenge, hand in hand with its sponsors!

The Blue Carbon campaign

To help the ocean continue to play its role of the lungs of the world by restoring the blue carbon sinks, the Nausicaá endowment fund is supporting projects to protect mangroves, sea grass beds, salt marshes and coral reefs. Join us in supporting these actions !

Details on the projects in which you can take part

The Great Youth Forum 2024

Ocean carbon sinks in all their forms are essential tools to limit global warming; their preservation and restoration are therefore important for our future.

Mangrove protection

Mangroves are among the most productive ecosystems in the world. They protect the coastline from storms and
erosion, are nurseries for local wildlife and store large amounts of carbon.

Protection of seagrass

The largest coastal ecosystem on the planet, seagrass beds are extremely productive and home to a wealth rare biological.

Protection of salt marshes

A real bulwark against global warming, salt marshes absorb wave energy, limiting erosion and damage during storms. They are also great carbon sinks, allowing a large quantity to be captured and stored.

Reef protection

If coral reefs are not strictly speaking part of blue carbon, they are a protector. Where the coral is healthy, the surrounding carbon sinks are fully effective. They form barriers that protect the coasts from the power of the waves and from erosion.
